ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization
  • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and, as appropriate, refers participants and families to other programs.
  • Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Organizes, maintains, and stores class equipment. Immediately reports damaged equipment.
  • Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
  • Ability to lift equipment and a small to average-sized child.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, and twist in water while teaching.
  • Must be able to communicate with youth and their parents positively and respectfully.
  • Instructors will teach and instruct students anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours in the water
