Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the Gastroenterology Technician III in endoscope and equipment decontamination and reprocessing as the departmental expert.
- Assist with equipment and procedure room preparation, setup, calibration prior to procedures.
- Handle procedure room breakdown, specimen collection in the GI Lab, inventory control, and patient billing.
- Test, arrange repair, and document endoscope processing and repair.
- Assist physicians and nurses directly, providing hands‑on patient care during routine procedures (Colonoscopy, EGD, Sigmoidoscopy, Motility Procedures) and complex interventional procedures (ERCP, EUS, Fine Needle Aspiration, Biopsy, Bronchoscopy).
- Collect tissue and fluid specimens during diagnostic and invasive procedures, including Bronchoscopy, Upper & Lower GI procedures, ERCP, and Endoscopic Ultrasound Fine Needle Aspiration.
- Assist physicians in obtaining specimens, retrieve them directly from biopsy devices, implant, mount, or suspend specimens using microscope slides, mesh, or suspension solutions.
- Label and log specimens per Medical Center policy and deliver them to the appropriate pick‑up station.
- Strongly preferred: 2 years of general GI and Interventional GI procedure experience.
- Knowledge and adherence to GI Lab policies and procedures after orientation.
- Skill in reading documents written in Standard English (e.g., administrative policy and procedure manuals).
- Skill in evaluating and implementing technical information such as operation manuals and directions for use of disinfectants, lubricants, and other cleaning agents.
- Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly to obtain and convey information across the organization.
- Writing skills sufficient to use appropriate vocabulary and grammar when logging and reporting.
- Ability to speak one‑on‑one using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to provide and receive information.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all team members and ancillary staff.
- Skill in performing tasks with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
- Skill in setting priorities that accurately reflect the importance of job responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently and interdependently, following through on assignments with minimal direction.
- Ability to adapt to changes in workload or assignments.
- Skill and manual dexterity to work with intricate equipment without dropping or damaging it.
- Ability to stand for prolonged time periods.
