Help plant & harvest at our Farm & Food Gardens with residents of affordable & permanent supportive housing

Since 2019, and in partnership with Community Corporation of Santa Monica, Safe Place for Youth, Holos Communities and The People Concern, Growing Hope Gardens successfully opened and expanded 15 urban, organic, regenerative resident food gardens and fruit trees, and a 1/4 acre farm, at distinct affordable housing and homeless shelter properties in Los Angeles County.

All of the resident food gardens are supported with our bi-monthly maintenance visits, with the goals of helping the gardens thrive and increasing onsite resident knowledge and stewardship. This approach maximizes chances of success at growing food and supports resident engagement.

Educational signage informing how to harvest, care, nutritional content, and suggested use is placed each season in the gardens. We also support the increase in plant-based knowledge with our online portal.

Join our Growing Hope Garden Team at our regenerative farm in Santa Monica, or help maintain food-growing planters at nearby affordable and permanent supportive housing communities. Volunteers will assist with planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting to support resident access to fresh, healthy food. No experience needed - just a willingness to get your hands in the soil and support community well-being!

When
:
Tuesdays, 10am-noon (Farm & Resident Food Gardens), Saturdays, 10am-noon (Farm only).

Where
:
We meet at the Farm where you can choose to stay and help there or walk, bike or drive (Tuesdays only) to nearby low-income housing food gardens within less than 1 mile of the farm.

Come garden with us and make a direct impact on food access for local under-resourced residents.

  • Group Size Range: 1 - 50+
  • Event can be held at our farm & Resident Food Gardens.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
