Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to support the financial operations of a large nonprofit based in Santa Monica. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role plays a critical part in strengthening accounting systems, maintaining internal controls, and ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.

Key Responsibilities Accounting & Reporting- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, reconciliations, and accounts payable/receivable.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, support year-end audit schedules, and ensure accurate GAAP-compliant reporting.
- Maintain organized, detailed records and enforce adherence to nonprofit accounting standards.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Provide financial insights and tools to support leadership decisions and measure program performance.
- Track and reconcile restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Support grant budget monitoring, donor reporting, and ensure expenditures align with grant requirements and donor intent.
- Assist with audits, prepare schedules, and maintain supporting documentation.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with internal policies, GAAP, and nonprofit standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a nonprofit organization.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting.
- Experience with grant or restricted fund tracking highly desirable.
- Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver accurate results.
- Proactive, reliable, and solutions-oriented team player.
- Salary: $100,000 – $140,000 annually, based on experience.
