Overview

Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a NICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment in Santa Maria, California. The RN will provide specialized care to critically ill and premature newborns in a NICU, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and support family-centered education while delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and monitor critically ill and premature newborns, identify changes, document conditions and responses
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with neonatal nursing techniques
  • Perform neonatal assessments, including vital signs, weight checks, and specialized neonatal screenings
  • Operate and manage advanced NICU equipment (ventilators, CPAP, infusion pumps) and ensure proper functionality
  • Assist with life-saving and diagnostic neonatal procedures, including umbilical line placement and intubation
  • Educate and support parents on neonatal care, including feeding techniques and developmental care
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and procedures
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Adhere to infection control measures, PPE use, and sterilization protocols
  • Collaborate with neonatologists and therapists to optimize neonatal outcomes
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • One year of recent experience as a neonatal intensive care RN
  • Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
  • Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification
  • Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Certification (RNC-NIC)
  • PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC
  • Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position

  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
  • Physical abilities to remain stationary, move equipment (50-100 lbs), push/pull, and bend
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with a variety of personnel
  • Technical/motor skills for handling procedures and department equipment
  • Mental requirements to cope with deadlines under pressure and occasional supervision
  • Sensory — visual acuity and effective communication
