* Civil Service Rule 1414. Appointment to Fill Vacancy During Leave of Absence.
1414 vacancies may occur as a result of a leave of absence, and the duration of the appointment shall be subject to the return of the individual who is on leave. A person who is appointed to a position under Civil Service Rule 1414 may be able to transition into a regular position in the classification without re-application or re-testing, depending on the performance of the appointee and the needs of the department.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Under professional direction of a physical therapist, assists in the provision of physical therapy services according to documented treatment plans; and performs related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This class is distinguished from the CCS Occupational/Physical Therapist I/II by the latter s responsibility for conducting patient evaluations and for the development of treatment plans and goals. It is further distinguished from the Therapy Attendant by its requirement for licensure or certification and its ability to work without close supervision.

The IDEAL CANDIDATE will possess:

  • Experience working with children with disabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with patients and their family members, teachers, caregivers, physicians and the CCS team.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent follow-up skills.
  • The ability to work independently.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

California Children s Services (CCS): The CCS program provides diagnostic and treatment services, medical case management, and physical and occupational therapy services to children under age 21 with CCS-eligible medical conditions. CCS is administered as a partnership between county health departments and the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). This position is part of the Medical Therapy Program (MTP), which provides physical and occupational therapy to children with certain physical (neuromuscular or orthopedic) conditions or diseases.

These services are provided free of charge in special locations (Medical Therapy Units) associated with schools. In addition, consultation may occur in the classroom and home. to learn more about the Medical Therapy Program.

NOTE: Candidates may be hired before receiving their PTA license. However, as a condition of continued employment, incumbents must obtain the appropriate license as required by the State of California.

Additional Qualifications: Some positions may involve independent travel and may require a valid California Class C Driver s License.

Knowledge of: human anatomy and physiology; human growth and development; pathophysiology resulting from injury and disease; concepts, scope, and techniques of physical therapy; medical/legal aspects of physical therapy services; self care and daily living skills needed by patients for maximum independent living; basic construction, use, and care of orthopedic appliances.
