You Make a Difference

The Substance Abuse Counselor provides direct care services to patients with mental, emotional, and substance abuse issues, working closely with the treatment team to fulfill the interdisciplinary treatment process for patients with a dual diagnosis. This includes developing and conducting program activities for education and treatment related to substance abuse, as well as providing individual and group counseling sessions. The counselor is responsible for patient assessment and the development and implementation of Recovery Plans, within the company's standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts group and individual substance abuse (SA) activities for patients and develops related programs.
  • Assesses and evaluates patients for co-occurring disorders and determines the level of care required.
  • Ensures timely completion of all necessary records and reports.
  • Maintains professional development through in-service education and other resources, while complying with Human Resources requirements.
  • Shows cultural sensitivity, treating each patient as an individual, and considering their cultural background when providing care and treatment.
Qualifications & Requirements Education
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a social services related field.
  • Or Certified in the substance abuse field
  • Or Experience in the substance abuse field
Experience
  • Ability to work with computers
  • Ability to work with software used by the department.
  • Relevant experience in provision of addiction counseling services
Licenses/Certifications
  • Licensed in an addiction counseling specialty (Certified Addiction Counselor, Registered Addiction Counselor, Certified Addiction Professional (CAP)) certification is strongly preferred
  • Certified as a Counselor in Training under supervision or licensed in social work, counseling or psychology
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification
