Positions are full-time with full benefits and start out between $20.50 - $23.00 per hour. Locations in Goleta, Santa Barbara & Carpinteria may receive an additional monthly locality stipend between $250 - $350.
Teachers work in partnership with the team teacher to develop weekly lesson plans for preschool children, develop and maintain a safe and positive classroom climate, and an intentional learning environment; screen and assess each child using appropriate tools; individualize educational plans based on ongoing developmental assessments. Engages parents of various cultural backgrounds in their child’s education. Acts as the “second in command” of site operations when the Site Supervisor is off site, as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- When in the teacher/child ratio, maintain 100% supervision of all children, by sight and sound at all times.
- Plan high quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences with the team teacher.
- Carry out a bilingual, multicultural, anti-bias curriculum designed to meet children’s developmental needs within program guidelines.
- Develop positive relationships with each child and parent.
- Maintain an indoor and outdoor classroom environment consistent with Head Start/Child Development, Licensing and Agency standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of records and information of enrolled families.
- Assist children with self-care needs such as tooth brushing, diapering, toileting, hand washing and wiping noses.
- Maintain a physically safe environment and clean, well-organized equipment and learning materials indoors and out.
- Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings and curriculum planning meetings.
- Plan monthly/weekly curriculum with team teacher that scaffolds children’s development.
- Work with the team teacher to plan and evaluate individualization of the curriculum and behavior plans if applicable.
- Responsible for large group activities three times a week and a small group (primary language) daily.
- Plan and carry out transition activities for children entering or leaving the class/center.
- Maintain narrative records on each child related to development.
- Complete required paper and electronic records in a timely manner.
- Assume responsibility for maintenance of required assessments and screenings.
- Attend IEP meetings for special needs children with consultants, school district personnel and parents as required.
- Attend parent meetings upon request and provide daily ongoing communication with parents regarding children’s activities, development, and special needs.
- Make at least 2 home visits and two parent conferences with each assigned family annually; make special efforts to include fathers.
- Participate with supervisors and managers in evaluating and improving the program’s effectiveness.
- Carry out responsibilities of staff supervision, licensing requirements and overall center operations when the Site Supervisor is away from the center.
- Consistently use positive child guidance methods and be available for pre-arranged evening or weekend home visits, meetings, or special events as needed.
- Be aware of all center’s children with food allergies and ensure doctor-recommended substitutions.
- Be sensitive to children with special needs and work as a positive team member, communicating effectively with families and co-workers.
- Performs other comparable related duties as required.
- Teacher I: 12 units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development in core course or hold Associate Teacher permit or Child Development Associate permit.
- Teacher II:
Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or a related field and eligible for a Child Development Teacher permit or higher from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing with three semester units in supervised…
