Position Summary

Allan Hancock College is a California public community college located in northern Santa Barbara County. The English Department at Allan Hancock College is looking for dedicated teachers who are willing to embrace our community, students, and commitment to ensuring that if a student starts at Hancock, they can go anywhere. These tenure-track assignments will begin August 2022. New faculty will be invited to teach a variety of courses and will also contribute through instruction and service to expanding the department's learning communities in support of our Latinx, AAPI, and African American students, as well as other historically underrepresented student populations.

Functions and Qualifications Duties and Responsibilities

These are two full-time, 175-day (10‑month annual contract) tenure‑track faculty positions in the English Department.

The instructors will teach a range of transfer composition and other English courses to students with a variety of educational skills, experiences, and goals. The positions may include teaching in the evenings and on weekends at any college site, including our Lompoc Valley Campus.

In addition, these instructors will:

  • Participate in program review and curriculum development;
  • Review and revise content of course(s) as necessary;
  • Maintain five (5) required office hours per week for student consultation; participate in department and college activities;
  • Maintain class and examination schedules as well as grade and attendance records according to college regulations;
  • Participate in the college's shared governance processes and perform related tasks as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Commitment to supporting underrepresented and underserved student populations.
  • Awareness of student inequities and knowledge of anti‑racist practices.
  • Evidence of creating culturally responsible curriculum and instruction.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with learning communities such as the Puente Project or Umoja.
Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition.

OR Bachelor’s degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition,
AND Master’s degree in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism.

OR The equivalent as outlined in Administrative Procedure 7211 (Download PDF reader).

Additional Information

The hiring salary range is $57,858 to $82,391 depending upon education and experience.
