Position Summary

The Cook Supervisor / Driver is responsible for supervising daily food preparation and service operations within a correctional facility while also supporting transportation and delivery of food, supplies, and meals as required in Santa Fe, NM. This role ensures meals are prepared safely, on time, and in compliance with contractual, nutritional, and security standards, while providing hands-on leadership to kitchen staff and inmates/workers.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, portioning, and service for inmate meals.
  • Provide direction, training, and oversight to kitchen staff and inmate workers to ensure safety, sanitation, and quality standards are met.
  • Prepare and cook meals according to standardized menus, recipes, and production schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP guidelines, and correctional facility policies.
  • Monitor food quality, presentation, portion control, and temperature standards.
  • Maintain accurate production records, temperature logs, and inventory documentation.
  • Receive, store, and rotate food and supplies in accordance with FIFO and safety guidelines.
  • Operate facility or company vehicles to transport food, meals, supplies, or equipment as needed.
  • Conduct vehicle safety checks and ensure proper handling and secure transport of items.
  • Enforce safety, sanitation, and security procedures at all times within the kitchen and during transport.
  • Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or operational challenges to management promptly.
  • Assist with inventory counts, ordering, and waste control efforts.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful work environment aligned with correctional standards.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous cooking or food service experience required; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in institutional, correctional, healthcare, or high-volume food service strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass required background check, drug screen, and facility clearance.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices.
  • Ability to work in a secure correctional environment and follow all rules and procedures.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and fast-paced kitchen environments.
Pay Rate
  • $18.00 – $20.00 per hour, paid weekly, depending on experience.
Schedule
  • Full-time position; schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on facility needs.
Work Environment
  • Secure correctional facility kitchen and transport setting.
  • Must adhere to all safety, security, and operational policies at all times.
