Purpose

The Seasonal Wildlife Rehabilitator is responsible for the care, rehabilitation, and release of approximately 1,000 animals annually. Through the application of current best practices, the role ensures the best attainable medical care, treatment, and rehabilitation outcomes for wildlife patients at NMWC, assists the Staff Veterinarian and Wildlife Rehabilitators in the supervision and training of interns and volunteers, assists the Staff Veterinarian in the care and treatment of wildlife patients, and supports initiatives and practices that place NMWC as a national leader in wildlife care and rehabilitation.

Classification

Seasonal, Full time, non-exempt.

Reporting To

Staff Veterinarian.

Supervises

Wildlife hospital volunteers and interns.

Dates

Six‑month contract from start date. Earliest start date is April 1, 2026 – September 30, 2026, no later than May 1, 2026 – October 31, 2026.

Work Hours

Seasonally variable, typically 5 days/40 hours per week. Some nights, weekend, and holiday work hours required. Some in‑state travel required.

Benefits
  • Salary: $19.00/hour.
  • Full time, non‑exempt, 40 hours per week.
  • Temporary onsite housing may be available at beginning of employment contract.
  • Overtime:
    Overtime is paid at 1.5x base rate, with prior written approval of supervisor.
  • Sick Leave:
    In compliance with New Mexico’s Healthy Workplaces Act (HWA), all employees become eligible to accrue paid HWA leave on their first day of work. Employees will accrue one hour of HWA leave for every 30 hours worked.
