• Serves as a Fire Management Officer: responsible for directing most phases of a fire management program.
• Provides oversight during initial and extended attack fires and directs fireline activities and tactics.
• Makes a variety of decisions and recommendations related to strategy to be used in managing fires, training needs, fire management standards, work priorities, etc.
• Performs supervisory duties such as assigns work and manages priorities, evaluates work performance, approves developmental and training needs of employees.
• Responsible for long-range fire management planning activities.
• Provides advice and guidance to the unit agency administrator.
• Facilitates collaboration for the development of local/annual operating plans.
• Makes or ensures inspections of the fire management organization and operations for compliance with approved plans, rules, regulations, and standards.
• Plans, coordinates, directs, and participates in training courses for agency personnel, cooperators, and others covering all phases of the fire management program.
• Develops and maintains overall fire management plans for complex fire programs covering a variety of activities.
• Ensures the fuels management program is consistent with ecosystem management principles, land management plans, and evaluates the impacts to air quality standards.

• Appointment will be subject to a favorably adjudicated background/suitability investigation/determination. Failure to possess or obtain a favorable determination will result in the cancellation of the offer or will be grounds for termination.
• Supervisory Probationary Period:
  If you are selected for this position, you will be required to serve a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period if one has not previously been completed.
• You must meet specified levels on annual physical fitness tests, and pass periodic medical exams for wildland fire personnel, commensurate with current incident management qualification.
• Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use and to pass the test prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
