The New Mexico Supreme Court is recruiting for a full-time, classified, Appellate Paralegal (U) position # for the Supreme Court (21600) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The target pay range is $24.736-$30.920 per hour or $51,451-$64,314 annually. Opening Date: 01-26-2026;

Responsibilities
  • Provide paralegal support to the Court, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and conformity with technical standards of appellate court dispositions and other documents.
  • Prepare, edit, perform technical analysis, and proofread appellate opinions, decisions, dispositional orders, and other documents.
  • Read and review cited cases to ensure they support the proposition and verify record cites for accurate representation in dispositions, records, and documents.
  • Ensure citations are correct and in accordance with The Bluebook and other style guides; perform legal research using various sources (electronic databases, case law, statutes, Court rules, journals, historical documents).
  • Draft and docket legal documents (e.g., memoranda of Court action, orders) and prepare Court files for oral arguments or conferences.
  • Circulate or file dispositions to comply with Court procedures; train and mentor other staff on case information and administrative processes in the Clerk’s Office.
  • Perform advanced legal research; prepare correspondence and orders; liaison with court staff, state agencies, the public; provide customer service; review court forms and rules for compliance; coordinate timely processing of documents; maintain Clerk of the Court/office files; manage calendars and prepare statistical reports; manage administrative minutes.
  • Assist with preparation of responses to Inspection of Public Records Act requests; coordinate timely processing of documents; manage processes, documents, records, and files as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The successful applicant should demonstrate good oral and written communications and a strong working knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and proper sentence structure. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and G Suite; knowledge of legal terminology, technical writing and editing; familiarity with appellate court dispositions and Bluebook-style citations; understanding of court rules, policies, operations, and case management systems; experience with legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis, NM One Source) and legal resources (NMSA, NMRA, etc.);

familiarity with common legal citation references and writing resources such as The Bluebook, Garner’s Dictionary of Legal Usage, The Gregg Reference Manual, and Black’s Law Dictionary. Basic understanding of organizational management and conflict resolution.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work is performed in an office or court setting. A valid driver’s license and travel may be required. Schedule may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
