Overview
The Oncology Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for independently creating and scheduling appointments within the electronic medical record for a complex, multispecialty medical practice. This role involves gathering patient-specific demographic and provider information to assess the nature of the request and determine the appropriate appointment area; advising patients regarding the need for co-payments and referral authorizations to ensure the patient arrives on time and is prepared for their procedure or visit;
communicating with a variety of individuals including patients, customers, referring physicians, clinical staff and family members; navigating multiple systems simultaneously. When applicable, codes procedures with the correct CPT and ICD-10 codes for scheduling clinic visits and in-office procedures. Facilitates communication between physicians, patients and other practices regarding scheduling and appointments to ensure a seamless transition for the patient.

- Gather patient-specific demographic and provider information to determine the appropriate appointment area.
- Advise patients on co-payments and referral authorizations to ensure timely arrival and preparation for procedures/visits.
- Interact with patients, customers, referring physicians, clinical staff and family members to coordinate scheduling and accessibility.
- Navigate multiple systems to provide efficient scheduling and service delivery.
- Code procedures with the correct CPT and ICD-10 codes for scheduling clinic visits and in-office procedures when applicable.
- Facilitate communication between physicians, patients and other practices to ensure a seamless transition for the patient.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
High school graduate or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSESNone required
SKILLS- Ability to read and write in English; bilingual in Spanish helpful
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with physicians, practices and various hospital departments
- Computer knowledge, keyboarding skills, switchboard skills and the ability to operate general office equipment
Three years experience in related healthcare field with demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 coding and outpatient scheduling.

General office environment, frequent contact with patients, VDT exposure.
Physical RequirementsLong periods of sitting. Keyboard usage with sound ergonomic principles. May be required to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 20 lbs. Requires good vision, dexterity and the ability to type.
