Under direct supervision of the DWI Compliance Monitor Supervisor, monitors the compliance of DWI offenders who have been sentenced to supervised probation through the Santa Fe Magistrate Court. Assists Teen Court clients to determine their needs and assists them in successfully completing their probation.

  • Attends DWI trailing dockets as needed to monitor DWI cases and to register defendants for needs assessments and screenings.
  • Contacts non-compliant DWI offenders and attempts to re-enlist them in completing their sentencing requirements.
  • Requests the Court to issue orders to show cause and/or bench warrants for non-compliant DWI offenders. Maintains relevant records, court forms, documentation, and case notes on offenders.
  • Contacts treatment providers, community service agencies, or other programs to evaluate DWI offenders’ compliance.
  • Reviews open cases on a regular basis to determine necessary actions.
  • Attends Court staff meetings as needed.
  • Coordinates with Court administrations regarding scheduling, record keeping, appointments, and databases as they refer to processing DWI offenders.
  • Develops and submits reports related to the DWI compliance monitoring activities as requested by DWI Screeners and/or by the DWI Program Coordinator.
  • Monitors drug and alcohol screening results from program participants.
  • Attends meetings and training as appropriate.
  • Recommends development and implementation of the DWI Compliance Monitoring component.
  • Collects fees and transfers them to the DWI Program Screening Clerk. Interacts with Teen Court clients; conducts intake and screening assessments to determine methods of addressing the needs of clients and their families.
  • Collaborates with school staff, district administration, juvenile probation staff, service providers, and other program facilitators to assist Teen Court clients in fulfilling their probation requirements.
  • Completes reporting for grants; follows through on invoicing and tracking of funds; collects and processes client payments; and prepares deposits and reports of online payments.
  • Participates in community outreach activities to educate the public on prevention initiatives.
  • Prepares and evaluates policies to ensure compliance with program requirements.
  • Assists with other departmental needs as requested.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of how the court systems function; of basic law enforcement practices; of local and state DWI regulations; and of substance abuse prevention practices.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare reports, and to adhere to strict deadlines and schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of community members, offenders, organizations, law enforcement, court personnel, and other agencies; and to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality, integrity, and ethical standards.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, database and other software programs in a Windows environment.
  • Skilled in working with a broad range of ages
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • Four (4) years of experience in psychology, social work, the court systems, law enforcement, or a related field.
  • Any combination of education and/or experience in the above mentioned areas or a closely related field totaling four (4) years.
  • Relevant education may be substituted for work experience at a rate of thirty (30) credit hours equal to one year of experience.
  • Must be able to obtain Notary Public certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must complete Court Officers Basic Training and Court Officers Advanced Training courses within one (1) year of employment.
Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office or court setting with occasionally work outdoors. Work schedule may include evening, weekend, and holiday hours. May be required to travel. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.

Clarity of vision at short and long distance is required. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds. May be exposed occasionally to high risk or potentially dangerous situations; to dust, fumes, airborne particles, or allergens; and to working with hostile, violent, or offensive individuals. May be subject to CRTs and VDTs.

Conditions of Employment

Selected candidate must submit to and pass a County paid pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening. Additionally, selected candidate must submit to and pass a county paid criminal background screening. Selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class D Driver’s License as incumbent shall be appointed to drive a County vehicle during the performance of his/her duties.
