Position Summary

Wild Earth Guardians is seeking a Finance Manager to oversee all aspects of the organization’s day-to-day accounting, financial record‑keeping, and financial reporting. The Finance Manager will also lead audit and IRS reporting preparation and support budgeting, liability insurance procurement, and other financial administration tasks. In addition, the Finance Manager is a thought partner to the Executive Director and People & Operations Director, and will work closely with the organization’s budget owners, the Board of Directors, development team, and program leads.

This role is key in formulating and implementing robust financial controls, providing real‑time financial data to key organizational decision‑makers, and ensuring compliance with legal mandates and best accounting practices. The new Finance Manager will be expected to lead a software transition from Sage Intacct to Quickbooks at some point in 2026, working closely with People & Operations and Development.

Accounting Operations

Manage daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll allocation, general ledger entries, and monthly reconciliations. Track organizational credit card purchases and manage cardholders. Review and reconcile bank and investment statements while optimizing bank relationships.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

Prepare and distribute timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including program‑specific data, narrative analysis, and recommendations, for leadership, the Finance Committee, and the Board.

Budgeting and Forecasting

Support the annual budgeting process and lead ongoing budget monitoring, including variance analysis and cash flow forecasting, to ensure resources are allocated effectively.

Vendor and Contract Management

Manages contracts (including issuance of 1099s), office lease agreements, and liability insurance policies while supporting the broader team in procurement and vendor management.

Grant Finance Reporting

Supports development team with financial information, budgets, and expense tracking related to restricted grants.

Audit and Compliance

Coordinate and lead the annual independent audit process and 990 tax return preparation, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors and maintaining strong internal controls and safeguards to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ensure timely completion of state charitable registrations in coordination with the development team.

Systems and Policies

Update, implement, and maintain necessary business policies, forms, and accounting practices. Optimize financial systems and software for improved efficiency, strong financial controls, and compliance. Assist staff with using financial systems and processes and foster financial literacy across the organization.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field - or equivalent experience that can be substituted for a degree
  • Experience and in-depth understanding of non‑profit or cost accounting bookkeeping and financial management
  • Understanding of GAAP and familiarity with audit process
  • Strong proficiency with accounting software, including Quickbooks and Sage Intacct
  • Proficiency with Excel and the Google Suite, and savvy with using technology and computer programs
  • Highly organized and accurate with careful attention to detail
  • Collaborates effectively with cross‑functional teams to support organizational objectives
  • Clear communicator with the ability to create informational materials and translate financial concepts for colleagues without finance backgrounds
  • Strong analytical and creative problem‑solving skills
  • Demonstrates integrity, credibility, and discretion in handling sensitive or private information
  • A deep commitment to protecting and restoring the wildlife, wild places, wild rivers, and health of the American West
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or equivalent certification is welcome but not required
