SummaryThe Chief Financial Officer is responsible for all financial and fiscal operations of the organization and will guide the organization’s financial strategy and planning. The Chief Financial Officer provides leadership for the finance team and will collaborate with the executive management team to establish and improve systems, long‑range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
The Chief Financial Officer shall provide support to the CEO, board, and management team in a fast‑paced environment. The Chief Financial Officer ensures accountability and proper internal controls through implementation and supervision of agency fiscal and investment policies, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and funder‑specific grant guidelines. This position requires effective oral and written communication, ability to collaborate with staff members at all levels of the organization, adherence to deadlines, ability to anticipate and manage financial operational needs and staff, and multi‑tasking.
Reliability and accuracy are essential. Local travel is occasionally required for meetings, errands, or events.

Growing Up NM utilizes two parallel, mutually informed strategies in all we do: a local programmatic approach and a state‑wide policy approach, with each continually informing the other.
- Manage the company’s financial operations, including billing, payables, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and auditing.
- Ensure the financial transactions, policies and procedures meet the organization’s short and long‑term business objectives and are conducted in accordance with regulations, generally accepted accounting principals (GAAP), and standards.
- Develop and implement the financial strategy of the organization. This includes long‑term financial planning and forecasting, risk management, and investment strategies.
- Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards to ensure the protection of agency assets and minimize loss or liability exposure.
- Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements. Ensure the timely reporting of key financial data and updates to the CEO, Board of Directors, and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions. This includes tax planning and compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
- Direct the finance team and ensure their ongoing professional development and training.
- Ensure accounting records and systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS) and coordinate the annual independent audit and 990 preparation with auditors.
- Support VPs to manage finances in programs and streamline operations while ensuring checks and balances in all financial operations.
- Support the preparation of the annual operating budget for management and Board approval.
- Ensure fiscal compliance with grants and restricted funds according to contractual obligations and oversee preparation of financial reports as required; ensure federal procurement and debarment procedures are followed for applicable transactions.
- Manage and/or support contract and lease obligations.
- Collaborate with COO on procurement and renewal of insurance policies.
- Participate in departmental and organization‑wide meetings as appropriate.
- Occasional local travel is required for errands or events.
