The NM State Land Office has a Non-Emergency Telework Policy, which allows eligible employees to telework up to twenty-four (24) hours a week consistent with the agency's business needs.
As a valued State Land Office employee, you will receive a hiring bonus of forty (40) hours of leave at your start date to be used at any time. This is in addition to standard leave accrual for employees.
Why does the job exist?
The core mission of the New Mexico State Land Office (NMSLO) is to responsibly generate revenue through a wide array of leasing activities on state trust lands on behalf of public schools, universities and hospitals. This position is a part of the Records Division and posts, audits and confirms state trust land ownership, restrictions, and the Chain of Title for activities on such lands.
How does it get done?
This position will be primarily responsible for all front desk tasks and duties, such as providing assistance to NM State Land Office personnel and the public with information and records requests. This position will create labels for new lease files for all divisions, retrieve and distribute lease files, and maintain and update the electronic Records Management System which accounts for the location and availability of all land information documents and files.
This position will scan documents into the Document Management System, research and review state trust land ownership, assist the Director in the implementation of the established archiving procedures for NM State Land Office title records, manage office supply inventory for the division, and conduct other duties and tasks as assigned.

Oil, Gas, and Minerals Division;
Administrative Services;
Commercial Division;
Legal Division;
Surface Resources Division; and executive State Land Office management officials (Office of the Commissioner).
External:
New Mexico public schools, universities and hospitals; individuals; general public; lessees (agricultural, oil and gas companies, commercial, rights-of-ways); natural resource authorization users; program enrollees; hunters; other government entities (state, federal, city, county, tribal).
Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Excellent communication skills,
- A minimum of one year working with the public in a professional environment,
- A minimum of one year experience working with computers, scanners, MS Office, Outlook, as well as data entry experience; and
- Experience reading maps, understanding land descriptions and/or leases.
Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of work experience in office administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain and valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers, and phone usage with extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
