Biomedical Engineer, Systems Engineer
Applied Bio Code is seeking a Senior Instrumentation Engineer to join our growing instrumentation team on‑site based in Santa Fe, Springs. This role will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert for electro‑mechanical systems that power our molecular diagnostic platforms.
You will play a critical role in improving instrument performance, reliability, and production readiness while working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. This position will also help support the transition of responsibilities as a senior engineering leader prepares for retirement, ensuring continuity of knowledge and technical leadership.

What You Will Do- Serve as the subject matter expert for electro‑mechanical systems supporting Applied Bio Code instrumentation
- Troubleshoot complex issues for internal and customer instruments
- Design and redesign electronic and electro‑mechanical components to improve performance and reliability
- Develop and execute validation and testing protocols aligned with quality standards such as ISO 13485
- Lead engineering initiatives from feasibility through full production implementation
- Improve procedures and documentation that support instrumentation manufacturing and production
- Provide hands‑on support for internal systems and engineering troubleshooting
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including quality, manufacturing, and operations
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians and support their technical development
- These responsibilities support continuous improvement of our diagnostic instrumentation platforms and overall production efficiency.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering experience
- 5+ years of engineering experience, or 8+ years without a degree
- 3+ years of electrical system design experience
- Hands‑on experience with analog, digital, and mixed circuit design
- Strong troubleshooting capability including component‑level diagnostics
- Proficiency in soldering and electronics troubleshooting
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
- Experience with thermocycling systems
- Experience in medical devices or regulated environments
- Familiarity with ISO 13485 or similar quality management systems
This is an on‑site role based in California. The position operates in a laboratory and engineering environment and may involve working with diagnostic instruments, electronic components, and mechanical systems.
Occasional travel may be required for vendor visits, customer sites, or instrumentation support activities.

- Competitive base salary: $95,000 – $125,000 annually (DOE)
