Senior Instrumentation Engineer

Applied Bio Code is seeking a Senior Instrumentation Engineer to join our growing instrumentation team on‑site based in Santa Fe, Springs. This role will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert for electro‑mechanical systems that power our molecular diagnostic platforms.

You will play a critical role in improving instrument performance, reliability, and production readiness while working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. This position will also help support the transition of responsibilities as a senior engineering leader prepares for retirement, ensuring continuity of knowledge and technical leadership.

• Serve as the subject matter expert for electro‑mechanical systems supporting Applied Bio Code instrumentation
• Troubleshoot complex issues for internal and customer instruments
• Design and redesign electronic and electro‑mechanical components to improve performance and reliability
• Develop and execute validation and testing protocols aligned with quality standards such as ISO 13485
• Lead engineering initiatives from feasibility through full production implementation
• Improve procedures and documentation that support instrumentation manufacturing and production
• Provide hands‑on support for internal systems and engineering troubleshooting
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including quality, manufacturing, and operations
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians and support their technical development
• These responsibilities support continuous improvement of our diagnostic instrumentation platforms and overall production efficiency.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering experience
• 5+ years of engineering experience, or 8+ years without a degree
• 3+ years of electrical system design experience
• Hands‑on experience with analog, digital, and mixed circuit design
• Strong troubleshooting capability including component‑level diagnostics
• Proficiency in soldering and electronics troubleshooting
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools

• Experience with thermocycling systems
• Experience in medical devices or regulated environments
• Familiarity with ISO 13485 or similar quality management systems

This is an on‑site role based in California. The position operates in a laboratory and engineering environment and may involve working with diagnostic instruments, electronic components, and mechanical systems.

Occasional travel may be required for vendor visits, customer sites, or instrumentation support activities.
