About The Role
Responsible for checking initial IFP packages for completeness and timely submission to the appropriate Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). This position receives direction from the Director of Project Development and is responsible for overseeing that projects are permitted on schedule. The Permit Technician performs critical tasks as front‑line personnel related to relationship building, organizing, submitting permit applications, following up and obtaining project permit applications from the appropriate AHJ.
This includes receiving, reviewing, organizing, and preparing IFPs. The CUP or MUP conditions are additional Conditions of Approvals (COA) for submission to appropriate authorities and to ensure permits are obtained on schedule. Permit Specialist also provides both organizational and technical support to the project development department as needed.

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers, jurisdiction staff and the customers
- Review and prepare drawings and other documents and organize IFP packages for submission for permit application and plan check to appropriate JHA
- Provide Project management teams with accurate and up to date information regarding permit process and permit activity as required per different project/JHA
- Follow up with staff and plan checkers to ensure reviews are done timely and permits are issued on time
- Type reports, letters, and a variety of other documents from rough draft to final document for submission
- Maintain and update permit applications log and plan checks being performed by Project Development team
- Maintain and update engineered drawings and site studies being performed by Project Development team
- Generate and maintain an accurate record‑keeping system for active permits and tracking of all inspections to be performed on a particular project
- Perform other related duties as required
- Track active projects and follow up with project team and staff at the JHA as necessary to ensure that deadlines are achieved
- Provide due diligence review during RFP stage (review CUPs, ESAs, EIRs, wetland permits, etc.)
- Negotiate with AHJs regarding permit fees
- Know and understand all AHJ (Federal, State, and Local) requirements for all jurisdictions we work in
- Ability to learn new AHJ requirements when we expand into new regions
- Coordinate with Project Managers to issue payments on time for permitting
- Knowledge of construction processes and progress timelines
- 3+ years of permitting experience preferably with multiple jurisdictions
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, communication, or related field
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Proven ability to take on responsibilities on multiple projects at one time
- Able to travel for pursuit meetings with different AHJs and project teams
- Proven ability to write and edit project summaries, technical documents, and other supporting information
