Position Summary
The General Manager of Bitcoin Mining is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of the company’s mining operations, strategy, financial performance, partnerships, technology, compliance, and execution. This leader ensures the mining unit meets revenue and uptime targets, aligns with the broader company mission, and leverages mining as both a business engine and an impact driver. The General Manager is accountable for results, cross-functional leadership, operational excellence, and transforming mining into a scalable and profitable business unit.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategy & Business Leadership- Develop and execute the annual and multi-year strategy for the mining division.
- Build and manage the economic model, including hashrate growth, cost structures, breakeven, and ARR targets.
- Identify new opportunities for expansion, hosting partners, geographies, and energy strategies.
- Represent the mining unit in executive and board-level discussions.
- Own day-to-day mining operations: uptime, troubleshooting, maintenance coordination, repairs, firmware, and monitoring.
- Oversee miners, containers, hosting sites, and logistics.
- Ensure 99%+ uptime standards, fleet optimization, and operational discipline.
- Develop SOPs for maintenance, replacements, troubleshooting approvals, and vendor management.
- Manage strategic relationships with hosting companies, rack providers, ASIC repair centers, and equipment suppliers.
- Negotiate contracts, SLAs, and performance metrics.
- Approve or deny advanced troubleshooting requests, un-racking fees, and repair workflows.
- Coordinate equipment deployment, delivery, movement, and scaling plans.
- Own P&L for the mining division.
- Track and forecast:
- Revenue from mining + hosting arrangements
- Power costs
- Hosting fees
- Cap Ex for miners/containers
- ROI on hardware and contracts
- Report monthly and quarterly performance to CEO/CFO.
- Drive the division from its current ARR to multi-million ARR targets.
- Understand ASIC hardware, firmware options, repair processes, and fleet optimization.
- Oversee monitoring dashboards, alert systems, and energy strategy (curtailment, immersion, under clock/overclock).
- Coordinate with Engineering when integrating mining data into internal systems.
- Ensure mining sites follow operational standards, physical security, safety, and energy compliance.
- Manage data integrity, insurance requirements, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Oversee audits, documentation, and reporting.
- Build and lead a small operations team (technicians, analysts, support).
- Provide guidance and cross-functional direction to Finance, Operations, Impact, and Engineering.
- Establish KPIs and hold team members and vendors accountable.
Qualifications
- Experience in Bitcoin mining, data center operations, or energy-intensive infrastructure.
- Strong ability to build financial models and analyze mining economics.
- Operational excellence mindset; thrives in fast-moving, high-ownership environments.
- Strong negotiation and vendor-management skills.
- Familiarity with ASIC hardware (S19/S21 generation), firmware, and repair workflows.
- Comfortable representing the company with partners, investors, and strategic stakeholders.
- Leadership skills: execution-focused, structured thinker, excellent communicator.
