Job Summary and Responsibilities

The RN works under general supervision of the Cardiac Cath Lab charge Nurse as a member of the Cardiac Cath team. Maintains a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization. Provides direct patient care, assessment, planning and intervention. Operates physiologic monitoring recorder and all related Cath Lab equipment. Assists with patient and procedure preparation. Functions as a scrub assistant during cardiac catheterization.

Shares on-call work schedule. The RN is responsible for supporting efforts to improve clinical and service excellence of patient care provided and must identify and apply care skills appropriate to the specific patient age groups served. The RN will participate in achieving service targets and process goals. For staff nurse III and IV, complete requirements, obtain approvals, and submit required information by designated time frames found in the SNAP policy # .

Responsibilities
  • Administers prescribed medications and intravenous solutions according to standards of care and hospital protocols.
  • Assesses pain level in all patients using the 0-10 scale, Faces, or other approved scale to promote comfort and enable patients to participate in their healing; identifies comfort function goals with patients.
  • Provides timely/appropriate assessment and intervention.
  • Reports significant observed or reported alterations in the patient s condition to the appropriate Physician, Clinical Supervisor, Nurse Manager, or Preceptor.
  • Consistently models Dignity Health Patient Satisfaction standards and demonstrates respect for patient rights.
  • Keeps patient rooms private and safe by knocking/asking permission to enter, monitoring conversations, closing doors/curtains, and arranging translators when needed; informs patients of rights and consent forms.
  • Addresses the physiological, psychosocial and spiritual needs of each patient; makes referrals to Physicians, Social Worker/Case Management, and/or Chaplain Services as appropriate.
  • Labels lab specimens, maintaining a zero-tolerance standard for mislabeling.
  • Interprets EKG tracings, BP and cardiac waveforms.
  • Completes hospital forms per protocol, including records of patient charges, Admission Profile, Multi-disciplinary Plan of Care, and other forms as needed.
  • Follows policy to utilize patient restraints, providing the least restrictive environment, assessing ongoing need, and documenting all interventions.
  • Explains health treatments to patients and families, and teaches self-care practices.
  • Demonstrates safe skill implementation and participates in equipment/procedural change in-services; performs technical skills per competency requirements.
Required
  • Associate Of Nursing, upon hire
  • 1-3 years minimum experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab or 1 year experience in Interventional Radiology, upon hire
  • Registered Nurse: CA, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, upon hire
