Position title: Pre‑six 3D Visual Art Lecturer
Salary range: $8,872‑$10,912 per standard five‑credit course (seasonal variations may apply).
Percent time: Variable, based on course load assigned.
Anticipated start: Appointments contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding.
Position duration: Typically one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, or spring) and may also include Summer Session.

Position DescriptionThe Art Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach 3D visual art at the lower and/or upper division level. Possible course topics include 3D foundation, sculpture, public art, metal fabrication, foundry, intermedia, and architecture.
The department seeks to add to its current strength in the creation of socially and environmentally engaged work. Selected candidates should have a notable exhibition record and professional experience with a contemporary approach to visual art practice.
Preference will be given to candidates with any of the following qualifications:
- Proven ability to work with students from a variety of backgrounds.
- A multidisciplinary orientation that bridges areas of art practice, including interactive installation, sculpture, digital video, animation, social media, sound art, and physical computing.
- A multidisciplinary orientation that bridges the areas of 2D, 3D, and 4D art practices.
- A broad understanding of scholarly fields such as performance, social practice, emissive environments, and convergences of design, art, science, and technology.

QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at the time the application is submitted)
- M.F.A. or Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in a related field of study (e.g., art, art studies, fine arts); or at least four years’ equivalent professional experience in artistic and creative work with a national and/or international record of performances, exhibitions, or installations in museums, galleries, festivals, or alternative venues engaging the general public.
- University or college teaching experience.
- Curriculum Vitae – most recently updated C.V.
- Cover Letter – Briefly summarizes qualifications, areas of expertise, and interest in the position.
- Teaching Statement – Appropriate for students enrolled at UC Santa Cruz; candidates should review the statement guidelines.
- Art Samples – Ten required PDF submissions (one image or a URL to a single image per PDF). Optional additional samples may be submitted.
- Description of a Course or Course Syllabus – Provide a description of a course or course syllabus you have taught or would propose to teach (optional).
