Position overview. The Rachel Carson College at UCSC invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach non-core undergraduate courses in sustainability studies, science and entrepreneurship.
Salary estimate for a standard five-credit course is $8,531–$14,523. Percent time is variable, based on the course load (one five-credit course is 37.5%). Position duration typically includes one or more quarters of the regular academic year and may also include summer session. Anticipated start is for initial appointments beginning in spring quarter 2025 through spring quarter 2026.

Ideal candidates have instructional and occupational experience in fields and areas relevant to sustainability studies, renewable energy policy, urban agriculture, water conservation, green building, and transportation planning. Eligible applicants will demonstrate ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of backgrounds; contribute to inclusive excellence through teaching and other assigned duties; and be committed to increasing diversity in the green economy.
Responsibilities- Teach five-credit, non-core undergraduate courses, including interactive, experiential learning components.
- Mentor and support enthusiastic and dedicated students and student groups.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
- Contribute to inclusive excellence through teaching and other assigned duties.
- M.A., M.S., or B.A./B.S. with a minimum of three years of professional and/or teaching experience in sustainability studies, science, and entrepreneurship.
- Experience in renewable energy policy, regulation, and technology; urban agriculture and permaculture; water issues and conservation; household consumption and practices; green building and landscape design; and urban transportation planning.
- Equivalency foreign degrees considered.
