Location:
Santa Cruz. Full Time. This is a live-in position with provided apartment and a 3-year contract term unless terminated earlier. On-campus apartment accommodation is provided, with a basic meal plan for interaction with students, staff, and faculty in a dining hall setting during the academic year.

Facilitate community development, civility and responsibility; support academic, intellectual, cultural and social development of residents.
Provide leadership for student development in areas including academic success, diversity and inclusion, social justice, faculty involvement, health and wellness.
Develop and implement a comprehensive residential education program; assist with planning and implementation of college/unit programming.
Serve as primary resource for student residential staff in implementing the residential curriculum; supervise and advise college/unit-wide programming and staff.
Develop methods to assess quality of life in residential units; participate in research and program assessment; identify trends and needs for future programming.
Counsel and advise residents, resolve conflicts, hear grievances, and initiate mediation; enforce policies as appropriate.
Hire, train, evaluate and supervise student staff; provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities; model professional conduct; conduct trainings and ongoing staff development; facilitate meetings and attend team events.
Act as conduct officer for assigned caseload; apply student development theory and restorative justice; advise students and make referrals; ensure due process, resolutions and sanctions; enforce policies per Terms and Conditions and the Student Policies Handbook.
Participate in on-call rotations; support safety programs; manage on-site crisis and emergency response; coordinate with campus and community resources; assist during disruptions to campus operations; have key access for safety inspections and student lockouts; promote a safe and healthy workplace and report injuries.
Attend professional meetings; participate in committees; support leadership on special projects; engage in ongoing professional development and training on education, restorative practices, bias and emergency response.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training
- Direct experience in housing and residence life administration or student affairs
- Knowledge base in student development theory or related areas (e.g., community development, program development, educational theory, leadership, cross-cultural communications)
- Understanding of current trends impacting student populations and higher education; awareness of diversity in higher education
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and multicultural setting; experience with dimensions of diversity
- Strong written and verbal/interpersonal communication skills
- Assessment and conflict mediation skills; crisis handling ability
- Experience in recruitment, motivation, goal setting and evaluation of student leaders
- Ability to work well in a team and independently; strong organizational skills; administrative and record-keeping experience
- Budget oversight; proficiency with computer applications (word processing, layout, spreadsheets, databases, calendar, email/web)
- Master’s degree in related area
- Professional affiliations with associations such as ACPA, ACUHO-I, NASPA
- Experience with program presentation, facilitation, and group leadership development; live-in experience with residential programs
- Knowledge of student conduct and policy interpretation/implementation
- Pre-employment criminal history background check
- Employment misconduct disclosure process
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 60 days
- Title IX training every 2 years
- UC compliance training; on-site work hours; variable schedule including evenings and weekends
- Live-in apartment required for a 3-year contract
- Adhere to job safety procedures and reporting requirements; vaccination policy compliance
- CANRA Mandated Reporter obligations
- Safeguard sensitive information and comply with data protection policies
