New UCSC On-Campus Early Education Center Opening Soon. Our newly constructed facility on campus serves infants through school-age children, with separate play yards for each program, low teacher-to-child ratios, dedicated prep areas for staff, and loft spaces in every classroom. Multiple career positions are available. Job Summary

The Assistant Teacher is an entry-level position in the Child Development Center series. The Assistant Teacher works under the supervision of the Site Supervisor and Director of the Early Education Center. The role is responsible for general supervision and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum for infants, preschoolers, and school-age children (ages 3 months to 12 years). The Assistant Teacher may supervise Student Teacher Aides and assists in maintaining a safe, engaging learning environment.

Job Duties
  • 75% - Child Development and Education
    :
    Provide care and developmentally appropriate activities; implement curriculum; develop relationships with individual children.
  • In conjunction with teachers
    :
    Establish and maintain a safe, functional learning atmosphere; promote self-control, self-esteem and positive relationships.
  • General supervision and safety
    :
    Ensure compliance with licensing and regulations; support a developmentally appropriate environment.
  • Assist with classroom and play yard care
  • Supervise field trips on and off campus
  • Assist with curriculum planning aligned with Title 5, CDE, and CANAM/NAEYC standards; support DRDP assessments
  • Observations and communication
    :
    Regular observations, communicate with families, and document developmental milestones
  • Program evaluation and contribute to planning and goals
Other Responsibilities
  • Collaborative Relationships with Families
    :
    Regular verbal and written communication; support transitions between home and center; foster a culturally sensitive environment; attend quarterly family meetings.
  • Teamwork and Professional Growth
    :
    Attend staff meetings; participate in professional development and trainings; maintain California Child Development Permit requirements as applicable.
Required Qualifications
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of developmental needs across social, emotional, cognitive and physical areas

  • Word processing skills
  • Eligibility for a Child Development Permit at the Assistant Teacher level within 12 months of employment with 12 postsecondary semester units (or equivalent) in ECE or child development, including core courses and Infant & Toddler Development as per Title 22
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in licensed infant/toddler/preschool settings
  • Minimum of 3 semester units related to care of infants and Title 22 requirements
