Position Overview
Position title: Porter Elective Courses Pre‑Six Lecturer
Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach the standard five‑credit course is $8,531 – $14,523 (based on salary points 1‑19). Please see the UCSC Salary Scales and refer to the Non‑senate Instructional (NSI) Unit 18 Pre‑six Lecturer Academic Year scale. Instructional Workload Credit (IWC) valuation may vary and the course salary will be adjusted accordingly. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year (see Summer Session Faculty and Lecturer Pay).
Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned (one standard, five‑credit course is 37.5 %)
Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments beginning in spring quarter 2025 through spring quarter 2026. Initial appointments made after this period must be made through other recruitments.
Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position DescriptionPorter College at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach Porter non‑core/ enhancement courses in one or more of the following subject areas: arts, engineering, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. Successful candidates will be expected to teach 2‑credit or 5‑credit courses in their area of expertise.
Porter College is especially dedicated to fostering achievement in the arts and humanities. Applicants with any of the areas of expertise or qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Expertise in art history, creative writing, dance, environmental art, film and video, literature, philosophy of art, photography, theater arts, and visual art.
- College‑level teaching experience and/or experience teaching first‑year university students.
- Demonstrated record of working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties.

QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at the time the application is submitted):
M.A./M.S. degree (or equivalent foreign degree); or two years of artistic and creative work, consisting of publications, performances, exhibitions, or installations; or two years of scholarship published in print or web‑based media.
