Position title: Crown Elective Courses Pre-six Lecturer
Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach the standard five-credit course is $8,531 - $14,523 (based on salary points 1-19). Please see the UCSC Salary Scales and refer to the Non-senate Instructional (NSI) Unit 18 Pre-six Lecturer Academic Year scale. Instructional Workload Credit (IWC) valuation may vary and the course salary will be adjusted accordingly. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.
Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned (one standard, five-credit course is 37.5%)
Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit’s instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments beginning in spring quarter 2025 through spring quarter 2026. Initial appointments made after this period must be made through other recruitments.
Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position DescriptionCrown College at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach Crown’s enhancement courses (which does not include the Crown College 1 course). Crown’s enhancement courses promote innovation and the development of transferable skills through work in areas such as start-ups, social or creative entrepreneurship, computational modelling, and digital communication.
Crown instructors typically meet with a seminar of about 25 students two or three times per week and present materials from an established syllabus that in some cases the instructors help develop. Instruction involves assigning and evaluating student work, preparing grading, holding weekly office hours; and carrying out other typical instructional duties.
Selected candidates will demonstrate expertise in one or several professional fields including but certainly not limited to education, non-profit management, technological innovation, documentary work, or journalism.

- Demonstrated record of working effectively with students from a wide range of social, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
- Record of peer-reviewed research or creative activity in a relevant field such as education, creative writing (fiction or non-fiction), journalism, filmography, entrepreneurship (for-profit or non-profit), technology development, programming/modeling, or philosophy.
The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties.

QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at the time the application is submitted)
- M.A/M.S.; or a B.A./B.S. degree and completion of at least one year of a Ph.D. program; or a B.A./B.S. degree and at least two years of professional experience. Equivalent foreign degrees will be considered.
- Experience in a professional field such as education, creative writing (fiction or non-fiction), journalism, filmography, entrepreneurship (for-profit or non-profit), technology development, programming/ modeling, or philosophy.
