Job Description
The NC Programmer develops solutions to a wide range of complex machining problems, requiring ingenuity and innovation. The NC Programmer is responsible for defining and developing the machining process for complex aerospace parts, working with both hard and soft metals. The primary deliverable of the NC Programmer is comprehensive NC programs and detailed support documentation for set-up and running parameters. The NC Programmer works in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, collaborating with both external and internal customers.
Position Accountabilities
The following duties, tasks, work activities, and/or functions may be required of the NC Programmer:
- Collaborate with the IPT, including Manufacturing and Design Engineers, to plan the manufacturing process.
- Define the machining process, determining multiple position processes to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Select machine tools and cutting tools to optimize machining performance.
- Design fixtures and create reference geometry as needed for the machining process.
- Provide detailed machining instructions, including setup, tool definition, and in-process inspection.
- Manage and maintain NC programs and cutting tool assemblies and lists.
- Verify NC programs using simulation software such as Vericut and Third Wave Production Module.
- Support First Article machining and iterative updates based on shop feedback.
- Work effectively within an IPT environment, communicating clearly with customers, team members, and suppliers to achieve program goals.
Position Qualifications
The candidate should possess the following skills, abilities, and experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience developing multi-axis NC programs for hard or soft metals.
- Proficiency in CATIA software is required.
- Deep understanding of cutting tool applications, including speeds, feeds, depths of cut, and chip loads.
- Experience with CAM simulation software such as CGTech Vericut is preferred.
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to estimate task scope, manage multiple tasks, and adhere to schedules.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interface with all levels of the IPT, communicating in English.
