Overview
The City of Santa Clarita is currently recruiting for part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) employees in the General Services division of the Public Works department to assist in all aspects of street maintenance, under supervision. This position will average 32 hours per week and may be required to work a full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) schedule. Salary:
Maintenance Worker I: $19.02;
Maintenance Worker II: $22.28.
- Assists in repairing concrete structures, such as curbs, gutters, small drainage structures, and sidewalks; sets forms, mixes, pours, and finishes cement
- Assists in pavement patching, prepares sub-base; applies oil, rock, and asphalt; and tamp or rolls surface
- Assists in road construction projects, performing such work as checking the grade, spreading and smoothing base material, spreading oil and asphalt, rolling and tamping finished surface, and building berms
- Assists with the installation, repair, removal, and maintenance of various traffic signage, pavement markings, and guardrails
- Assists in providing traffic control services
- Assists with weed abatement and trash and litter cleanup
- Performs emergency work, including clearing debris from roads and drainage structures and placing sandbags in nearly flooded areas
- May assist in overseeing and monitoring the work of court-appointed community service workers
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- A minimum of six months of experience in a maintenance field (for example: concrete maintenance, asphalt maintenance, building maintenance, etc.) or other related experience
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license and a safe driving record is required
- Basic knowledge of and the ability to perform general maintenance, including repairs in the following areas: asphalt, sidewalks, street signs, and street markings
- Knowledge and application of safety practices relating to working in the public right-of-way
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work effectively within a team
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact with members of the public professionally and tactfully
- Positive attitude, self-motivated, and ability to demonstrate exceptional work ethic
- The ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- The ability to work in a safe and productive manner and operate various small power tools
- The ability to perform physical labor, bending, and squatting, as well as working outdoors and in inclement weather
- The ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 90 pounds
