Overview
The EHS Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations within a dynamic 24/7 manufacturing environment. This role involves conducting risk assessments, leading safety audits and incident investigations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to minimize workplace hazards and environmental impact. The EHS Engineer will collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, and leadership to foster a proactive safety culture, deliver training programs, and ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, and company-specific standards.

- Serve as the Environmental Management System (EMS) Representative for the site, ensuring alignment with environmental standards and practices.
- Develop and implement comprehensive programs for safety, health, environmental protection, emergency response, security, and fire prevention to support safe and efficient plant operations.
- Coordinate with regulatory and governmental bodies to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to safety, health, environment, security, and fire protection.
- Lead EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) training sessions, audits, and meetings to promote awareness and continuous improvement.
- Address audit findings by implementing effective corrective actions and ensuring timely resolution.
- Investigate workplace incidents using root-cause analysis tools to identify underlying causes and implement robust corrective and preventive measures. Document findings in detailed reports and hazard alerts for organization-wide learning.
- Conduct risk assessments of work environments, equipment, and operational processes to identify and mitigate potential hazards to personnel, facilities, and the environment.
- Design and enforce safety programs, including training modules, standard operating procedures, and policies that support 24/7 production operations.
- Monitor regulatory updates and ensure organizational practices remain compliant with evolving EHS standards.
- Perform regular audits and inspections to assess the effectiveness of safety initiatives and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Analyze incidents and near misses to determine root causes and implement preventive strategies.
- Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Promote a culture of safety by advocating for safer work practices and recommending improvements to equipment and processes.
- Track and analyze EHS performance data to identify trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and recommend enhancements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all EHS-related activities, including inspections, incidents, and program updates.
- Stay current with industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to continuously improve EHS performance.
- Work with the EHS team in completing JHAs (Job Hazard Analyses) for all employees.
- Coordinate Business Continuity Plan Documentation and Activities related to facility disruption or disasters such as fires, floods, earthquakes, explosions, terrorism, tornadoes, extended power interruptions, hazardous chemical spills, and other natural or man-made disasters.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the manufacturing operation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years related experience in a manufacturing facility (preferred).
- Knowledge of EPA regulations and environmental compliance standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience in time management and multi-tasking/prioritizing skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., data analysis, pivot tables, macros).
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
