About the RoleAs part of the Automation System Engineering (ASE) team, you will support operations and provide expert support for automated material handling equipment (MHE). You will contribute to preventive maintenance, increase equipment reliability, and enhance operational performance for conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print and apply systems, SCADA devices, and programs.
What You’ll Do- Promote a safe working environment by complying with all applicable codes, regulations, and company directives.
- Troubleshoot and modify software programs for material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers, Allen Bradley Controllogix/Compactlogix PLC platform and RSLogix 5000.
- Act as first‑level escalation for troubleshooting support both on‑site and remotely, including after‑hours emergencies.
- Inspect systems to ensure equipment operates within design capabilities and client‑specified conditions.
- Oversee scope development, work‑request initiation, scheduling, and inspection of work performed by outside contractors.
- Engineer process solutions and reliability improvements from concept to network implementation.
- Monitor industrial networks such as Ethernet, Control Net, Device Net, Profibus, AS‑I, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
- Analyze equipment metrics and partner with the site team to resolve electrical problems affecting performance.
- Communicate with stakeholders—including leadership, operations, and maintenance teams—on technical issues, project timelines, and production impacts.
- Facilitate failure and process reviews to recommend improvements or retraining.
- Perform controls systems assessments to maintain and improve equipment reliability.
- Maintain positive relationships with the client and operations/maintenance staff.
- Perform other job‑related duties as needed.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 2–5 years of relevant experience; a combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Experience in at least two engineering design cycles, including specification, component selection, and programming.
- 2+ years of experience with PLC programs.
- 2+ years of experience with robotics system components and controls.
- 2+ years of experience with SCADA systems.
- Availability for a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Ability to work independently with limited oversight.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements, including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Excellent communication skills for handling sensitive information and setting performance expectations.
- 2+ years apprenticeship or equivalent experience in Control Systems troubleshooting and programming.
- Experience supporting conveyors and sortation systems.
- Experience with robotic maintenance.
- In‑depth Microsoft Office knowledge.
- Strong organizational skills and inquisitive mindset.
- Advanced math skills for calculations such as percentages and fractions.
