Job Summary

We are seeking a driven and experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer to support EHS compliance and initiatives across two chemical manufacturing facilities and three warehouses. This role demands a hands‑on leader with strong problem‑solving skills, who takes full ownership and accountability to drive safety, environmental compliance, and process improvement initiatives.

You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, implementing corporate EHS programs, and fostering a strong safety culture across the organization. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced environment, is comfortable working independently, and is capable of building strong cross‑functional relationships across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • EHS Program Development and Management
    • Develop and implement comprehensive EHS programs:
      This includes creating and managing written programs, policies, and procedures for both locations, ensuring they meet and exceed all federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
    • Conduct regular EHS audits:
      Perform internal audits at both plant locations to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all regulations and company policies.
    • Manage EHS training:
      Develop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training to all employees, covering topics like hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and emergency response.
  • Chemical and Environmental Compliance
    • Ensure chemical safety:
      Oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of all chemicals. This includes maintaining the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) library and ensuring all employees have access to this information.
    • Manage environmental permits:
      Monitor and maintain compliance with environmental permits (e.g., air, water, waste) and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.
    • Handle hazardous waste:
      Supervise the proper segregation, labeling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with EPA and DOT regulations.
  • Health and Safety
    • Lead incident investigations:
      Conduct thorough investigations of all EHS‑related incidents, near misses, and injuries. This includes identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
    • Perform risk assessments:
      Conduct job hazard analyses and risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with plant operations.
    • Oversee personal protective equipment (PPE):
      Manage the selection, use, and maintenance of required PPE for all employees.
    • Promote a positive safety culture:
      Champion safety awareness and accountability among all employees and leadership.
  • Lead EHS efforts across two manufacturing sites and three warehouses, spending approximately 50% of time traveling between locations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies:
    Act as the main point of contact for external auditors and inspectors from agencies like OSHA and the EPA.
  • Prepare and maintain EHS reports:
    Keep detailed records of EHS metrics, including incident rates, training completion, and audit findings.
  • Collaborate with leadership:
    Advise plant leadership on EHS performance and future program initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of EHS experience in a chemical manufacturing or related industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, RCRA, and HAZCOM regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive projects to completion across multiple locations.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage teams at all levels of the organization.
  • Willing and able to travel 20% of the time between sites (Florence, KY, Farmington, MI, and Santa Clarita, CA).
  • Certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, and move about for extended periods as required by the job.
  • Perform light to moderate manual labor as needed (e.g., moving equipment, setting up workstations, stocking supplies).
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks safely and effectively with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Understanding of California regulatory
  • Experience with CalOSHA
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM a plus.
