Overview
The City of Santa Clarita is hiring Inclusion Support Staff. Under the leadership of the Recreation and Community Services Coordinator, these positions will support participants with special needs so they can participate in City summer programs, including Camp Clarita and Community Center summer programs. Staff will serve as positive role models and help youth participate in activities such as sports, crafts, games, field trips, swimming, and more.
Eligibilityand Schedule
Summer programs run from June 15 – August 7, 2026, with staff training beginning on June
8. These positions are expected to work up to 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, with the potential to work evenings and weekends. Shifts range from 6:45 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Staff is expected to work at a variety of sites in a team environment.

- Participates in all activities alongside participants with special needs, including active games, sports, and swimming
- Facilitates daily activities and makes modifications for participants as needed
- Monitors and maintains the safety of all participants
- Attends off-site field trips with participants when trips are part of the daily program schedule
- Ensures the physical and emotional needs of participants are met
- Swims with participants daily
- Monitors the behavior of participants receiving services
- Enforces rules in a clear and positive manner
- Communicates with the Inclusion Coordinator regarding participants’ concerns or issues
- Communicates with program staff regarding participants’ needs
- Assists program staff in preparing and planning activities as needed
- Attends meetings and training sessions
- Performs other duties as directed by Recreation and Community Services Supervisor, Coordinator, and/or Camp Director
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- At least one year of paid experience working with children and individuals with special needs
- Completion of college courses pertaining to education, early childhood education, recreation, and/or special education is highly desirable
- Possession of, or ability to obtain Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certification (Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid course will be offered during paid Staff Training)
- A combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered
- Provides support to Inclusion Aide II, including crisis situations
- Communicates with the Inclusion Coordinator and Supervisor regarding participants’ concerns
- Makes recommendations based on students’ needs
- Monitors staff and participants’ issues and concerns
- Assists with training Inclusion Aide II and other program staff
- Performs other duties, as directed by Recreation and Community Services Supervisor, Coordinator, and/or Camp Director
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- At least two years of paid experience working with children and individuals with special needs
- Leadership experience is highly desirable
- Completion of college courses pertaining to education, early childhood education, recreation, and/or special education is highly desirable
- Possession of, or ability to obtain Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certification (Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid course will be offered during paid Staff Training)
- A combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered
- Knowledge of a variety of special needs diagnoses
- Ability to demonstrate understanding, patience, and receptive attitude toward youth with special needs
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and interest in learning
- Ability to serve as a role model by displaying positive and courteous behaviors that children will admire and emulate
- Ability to maintain awareness of participants’ needs
- Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and positively, both orally and in writing
