Description / Duties and Responsibilities

Do you want a seasonal job where you can make a difference and have fun at the same time?

The Newhall Community Center (NCC) has multiple part‑time/seasonal (PTS) positions available to work directly with youth during NCC’s summer, winter, and spring camps.

NCC’s camps provide youth and teens ages 5 to 17 with opportunities to recreate during school breaks. Camps are filled with games and a variety of activities, including sports, arts and crafts, field trips, water games, and more! Both youth and staff return year after year, each season, because of the feeling of tradition, community, and belonging that they experience each year.

This is a job for someone who enjoys working with kids, being creative, and making a difference!

Summer programs run from June 15–August 7, 2026. Staff training begins on June 8, 2026. These positions are expected to work up to 40 hours per week based on the needs of the program;
Monday‑Friday with shifts between 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Organizes, plans, and works directly with leadership staff to implement the camp's programs and prepare activities for youth and teens that make camp fun!
  • Supervises and leads youth and teens in activities such as arts and crafts, games, sports, water activities, and outings – Yes, you get paid to play along!
  • Attends, participates, and supervises youth/teen field trips – Yes, you get paid to go on field trips!
  • Maintains staff/youth and staff/teen safety – Make sure everyone plays safely.
  • Assists in organization, set‑up, and clean‑up of facility – We all pitch in as a team.
  • Assists with decorating bulletin boards – You don’t need to be an artist to be creative.
  • Greets patrons and participants and answers inquiries regarding programs
  • Effectively addresses issues and concerns with youth and teens as they arise – Be prepared to handle some tough stuff—we will be there to support you!
  • Maintains various forms, logs, reports, and inventory – People who love to organize are a great addition to our team!
  • Performs first aid and responds to emergencies; reports incidents and accidents – We ordered plenty of band‑aids and ice‑packs.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions, which will be valuable additions to your resume
  • Follows and enforces City policies as they relate to the health, behavior, and safety of others – Safety first! Fun second!
  • Other duties, as directed by Community Services Supervisor, Coordinator, Specialist, and/or Recreation Leader III/II
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Six months of paid or volunteer experience in leading and planning activities for youth and teens in a recreation, education, childcare program, after‑school program, camps, or other relatable setting
  • Completion of college courses is highly desirable
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is highly desirable
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Ability to act as a role model by displaying positive and courteous behaviors that youth and teens will admire and want to emulate
  • Ability to maintain awareness of youth and teens’ needs and respond appropriately
