Head of Clinical Engineering, Robotics and Digital Solutions

Robotics and Digital solutions (RAD) group, part of Johnson & Johnson Med Tech family of companies, is recruiting for a Head of Clinical Engineering. This position is located in Santa Clara, CA.

At J&J Robotics we re changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers  abilities and improve patients  diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. J&J Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms:
Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions. Join our collaborative, rapidly growing teams in the San Francisco Bay Area, Cincinnati, and Seattle. Within RAD R&D we are a team of clinical, electrical, firmware, human factors, industrial design, mechanical, mechatronics, robotic controls, systems, software and UI/UX engineers and technical members who are passionate about improving patient care. The team includes a wide range of experience levels from junior engineers to industry experts. We follow an iterative, collaborative approach to product development, working across clinical, instrument, accessories, and system teams.

You:

As a leader in our team, you will join us in our journey to design and deliver some of the most advanced medical robotic systems in the world. You will work closely with multi-functional teams to influence technical strategies, guide the development process, and deliver tangible results. This role offers significant leadership responsibility, growth opportunities, and the chance to have a significant impact on global healthcare.

Performance Objectives and Responsibilities:
  • Build and manage a high-performing clinical engineering team across all RAD programs.

  • Establish clear performance standards and career paths; develop onboarding and training for technical and clinical excellence.

  • Manage resource allocation and departmental budgets across multiple projects, aligning with strategic priorities.

  • Develop and optimize processes that enhance efficiency, strengthen collaboration with R&D, and improve program outcomes

  • Shape product strategies and roadmaps by ensuring clinical insights inform design decisions and are communicated effectively to leadership.

  • Collaborate with physicians and industry experts to discover unmet clinical needs, establish customer requirements and provide clinical guidance to engineering design requirements.

  • Provide clinical and technical expertise and guidance throughout the design, development, and testing phases of products’ life cycles.

  • Set the vision for risk management and design validation, ensuring alignment with global regulatory standards and patient safety objectives.

Qualifications
  • Hold a degree in engineering (e.g. Biomedical/Bioengineering, Mechanical, Electrical) is required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical/technical experience in Med Tech, with at least 5 years in leadership role managing teams is required.
