Please note:
This position will include supporting our US Federal Government Cloud Infrastructure. This position requires passing a Service Now background screening, USFedPASS (US Federal Personnel Authorization Screening Standards), which includes a credit check, criminal/misdemeanor check and taking a drug test. Any employment is contingent upon passing the screening.
As a Senior Systems Engineer on our Sys Eng OODP Operations team, you will help deliver 24x7 support for our Government Cloud infrastructure.
Highlights- 4 Day work week (Sunday to Wednesday)
- This is a 3rd Shift position with work hours from 11 pm – 10 am Pacific Time
- No on‑call rotation
- Shift Bonuses for 2nd and 3rd shifts
The Cloud Infrastructure Systems Engineering team at Service Now is looking for help to architect and build the server infrastructure and core services that allow our SaaS platform to run at scale and with high availability. We are looking for a skilled Systems Engineer who can help craft the technology and processes needed to sustain Service Now's growth while gaining valuable experience in modern systems and software development.
Whatyou get to do in this role
- Write and maintain software‑defined declarative infrastructure, at scale.
- Deploy, scale, and manage containerized applications using Kubernetes, Docker, and other related tools.
- Strong understanding of traditional relational databases like MySQL or Postgre
SQL. Ability to write queries, perform joins, and optimize basic SQL queries. - Create build systems, web services, and automation tools that are thoroughly specified, documented, and testable.
- Build orchestration workflows by leveraging features of the Service Now platform.
- Research and implement new open‑source and commercial tools, technologies and methodologies.
- Collaborate with peer teams who have built world‑class networking and orchestration solutions.
- Experience in leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision‑making, or problem‑solving.
- 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 5+ years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3+ years of experience; or equivalent experience.
- Excellent Linux System Administration skills.
- Strong skills and experience designing, authoring, testing, and debugging code in Python.
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture, concepts, and operations.
- Strong skills and experience with Ansible and Terraform.
- Can figure things out – you will need to investigate and discover on your own.
- Experience working with Victoria Metrics, Postgres, Redis, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Comfortable building and maintaining Linux‑based systems through automated tooling such as Terraform, Cobbler, Puppet, Ansible, etc.
- Comfortable with virtualization using both public and private cloud infrastructure technologies such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon EC2, VMWare vSphere, etc.
- Working understanding of related infrastructure concepts such as IP networking, block and file storage, load‑balancers, etc.
- Understanding of related internet protocols such as DNS, LDAP, NTP, SMTP, HTTP, etc.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- High integrity, honesty and can uphold Service Now's values.
- Full‑time software development experience.
- Relevant Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform certifications.
- Deep experience with Terraform (any provider, especially Azure).
- Familiarity with Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) and its ecosystem.
