The Athletic Trainer will provide comprehensive sports medicine services for football athletes, with a strong emphasis on injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, return-to-play progression, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This role is responsible for the evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play management of NFL athletes under the direction of Team Physicians and the Head Athletic Trainer, while ensuring compliance with all NFL policies, standards, and best practices.
Responsibilities and Duties:- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat musculoskeletal injuries and conditions affecting NFL athletes.
- Design, implement, and progress evidence-based rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols.
- Provide therapeutic interventions including manual therapy, corrective exercise, neuromuscular re‑education, and functional progression.
- Utilize therapeutic modalities and exercise equipment safely and effectively.
- Apply peripheral joint and soft tissue techniques, protective wraps, taping, and bracing as indicated.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and concise evaluations, treatment notes, and medical documentation.
- Collaborate closely with athletic trainers, team physicians, physical therapists, sports performance staff, sports nutritionists and other members of the medical and performance team.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and external medical vendors.
- Participate in multidisciplinary performance meetings and contribute to shared clinical and performance decision‑making.
- Maintain electronic medical records in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Participate in department meetings, professional development, and continuing education.
- Provide administrative support as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
- Assist in mentoring and educating members of the sports medicine and performance staff as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Strong clinical reasoning and skill development.

Required:
- Master’s degree in Athletic Training
- Current certification as an Athletic Trainer in good standing with the NATABOC
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
- Minimum of 3-5 years post‑master’s experience as a Football Certified Athletic Trainer at the NCAA Division I or professional level.
- Demonstrated proficiency in therapeutic exercise, functional progression, and manual therapy techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to follow duties and responsibilities assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
- Football‑specific experience at the NFL or NCAA Division I level.
- Experience working with high‑caliber or elite‑level athletes.
- Advanced knowledge or certification in areas such as corrective exercise, movement screening, strength & conditioning, or sport science applications.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing return‑to‑play and return‑to‑performance protocols for football athletes.
- Proficiency in the use and interpretation of objective performance data (e.g., GPS, force plate analytics, movement screening systems).
- Strong collaborative experience within integrated medical and performance teams.

This position requires the ability to work extended hours and/or weekends.
Travel:20% local travel; 1% intra and interstate travel requiring overnight stay are expected for this position.
