The quantum research group in Fujitsu Research of America (FRA) is seeking an exceptional researcher to develop technologies that will be incorporated into Fujitsu's future quantum computer hardware. These technologies will be used to strengthen Fujitsu's quantum computing offerings in various fields such as healthcare, material science, and finance. The successful candidate will be based out of our Santa Clara office located in the San Francisco Bar Area in California and will require international travel on an ad-hoc basis.
Your role will involve theoretical and/or experimental research on development and improvement of superconducting quantum computers, aiming for fault‑tolerant quantum computing. The research area is broad and there are several possible roles, so the roles will be discussed during job interviews.
Required Qualifications- Ph.D. in Quantum Information Science, Quantum Physics, Solid‑State Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
- Minimum of 3 years of academic or industry experience (after obtaining Ph.D) in the theoretical or experimental research of superconducting circuits, mesoscopic physics, and/or circuit Quantum Electrodynamics (cQED) with an excellent publication record.
Candidates are expected to possess deep expertise in at least one of the following areas, complemented by a strong foundational understanding of the others:
Theory & Modeling for Superconducting Quantum computer- Demonstrated expertise in quantum mechanics, statistical physics, and electromagnetism, with the ability to apply these principles to quantum computers.
- Exceptional proficiency in numerical computation and advanced programming skills (e.g., Python, Julia, C++); extensive experience with specialized simulation tools such as COMSOL, Ansys HFSS, or custom‑developed quantum simulation software is essential
- A deep and sophisticated understanding of hardware experiments, enabling insightful interpretation of experimental results, proactive identification of fundamental device challenges, and the ability to lead constructive, high‑level technical discussions with experimental and engineering team.
- Proven expertise in the design, modeling, measurement and optimization of superconducting quantum bits (e.g., transmons), including coherence engineering, anharmonicity control, and qubit‑qubit coupling.
- Strong experimental data analysis skills, including noise characterization, error analysis, and statistical validation of experimental results.
- Experience with cryogenic experimental setups (e.g., dilution refrigerators, cryostats) and microwave measurement techniques (e.g., network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, arbitrary waveform generators) for quantum device characterization and control.
- Conduct those experiments at our facilities in Japan.
