Position: Senior Systems Administrator – Electric Utility Department
Job OverviewSilicon Valley Power (SVP) is a community‑owned, not‑for‑profit municipal electric utility serving Santa Clara. SVP owns generation, transmission, and distribution assets, and is expanding its infrastructure and services.
Position SummaryThe incumbent will manage and operate Windows Server, Active Directory, HP Synergy Compute Modules, and SAN/LUN administration for the City’s Electric Utility Department.
Responsibilities- Manage and operate Windows Server infrastructure.
- Administer Active Directory environments.
- Configure and maintain HP Synergy Compute Modules.
- Administer SAN/LUN storage systems.
Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major work in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
Minimum Experience RequirementsFour (4) years of experience with real‑time energy management systems involving development, implementation, and management.
Acceptable SubstitutionAdditional qualifying experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education, up to a maximum of four (4) years.
License/CertificationsPossession of a valid California Class C driver’s license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Desirable Qualifications- Experience with Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), microprocessor‑based relays, Distributed Network Protocol (DNP), and ABB Network Manager – S (SPIDER) Energy Management Systems.
- Experience with VMware virtualization, SAN/NAS storage, and IBM Blade Centers.
- Experience using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- May be required to work unusual hours and weekends, and be available on an “on call” basis.
- Employees are required to pass initial and periodic comprehensive background checks, including fingerprinting.
- Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job assignment.
