Position Summary

Part‑time position as an Associate Instructor. Teaching assignment may require lecture‑discussion courses during day, evening or Saturday, and/or online/distance format. Assignments during Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is based on percentage of workload up to 67 % of a full‑time load. Base salary per semester ranges from $38,464 to $55,582, prorated and based on academic achievement and teaching experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in physics or astronomy AND master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics; OR
  • Valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in the discipline; OR
  • Equivalent of the above.

AND

Demonstrated ability to effectively work with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or online/distance education activities, evaluation of students’ work, consultation with students outside of class, and maintaining currency in subjects taught.
  • Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college.
  • Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due.
  • Follow course outlines as filed in instruction offices.
  • Maintain weekly office hours (.5 hours per week per section).
  • Observe, support, and enforce regulations, policies, and programs of the District and college.
  • Provide a written course syllabus at course start per Faculty Handbook.
  • Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and services.
  • Assist students by advising them on requirements for successful achievement in the field.
  • Work cooperatively within the college community.
  • Foster an environment protecting academic freedom.
  • Foster a positive working environment free from harassment, prejudice, and bias.
  • Respect the dignity of each individual.
