Position: Part-Time Arabic Instructor (Pool)

Position Summary

Part‑time Associate Instructor position. Teaching assignment may include lecture‑discussion courses during day, evening, Saturday, and/or online/distance education formats across Spring, Summer, and/or Fall semesters. This position is represented by the West Valley‑Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT / AFT Local 6554).

Work location:

Mission College, Santa Clara, CA.

Assignment

The instructor will be responsible for coursework as required, preparing instruction, evaluating student work, maintaining records, providing office hours, and supporting district policies. Work may be conducted in person or via online/distance modalities.

Salary and Benefits

Salary is based on a percentage of workload, up to a maximum of 67 % of a full‑time load. The base hourly rate is prorated from the initial hiring salary range of $38,464–$55,582 per semester, based on academic achievement, teaching experience, and related expertise. Benefits include the standard district benefits package.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess one of the following: a Master’s degree in Arabic; or a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic and a Master’s in another language or linguistics; or a valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in the discipline; or an equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious, cultural backgrounds, disabilities, and sexual orientations of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation for in‑class or online/distance education activities and evaluation of student work.
  • Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college.
  • Submit attendance rosters and grade reports when due.
  • Follow course outlines filed in the instruction offices.
  • Maintain weekly office hours (0.5 hour per week per section).
  • Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the District and college.
  • Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, per Faculty Handbook instructions.
  • Refer students to appropriate college sources for counseling and other student services.
  • Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in their area of expertise.
  • Work cooperatively within the college community.
  • Foster an environment that protects academic freedom and promotes a positive, harassment‑free workplace.
  • Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.
