Purpose:

The School of Engineering seeks a dynamic quarterly lecturer (QL) for the  academic year to teach graduate level AMTH courses. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, as well as a dedication to the well-being and advancement of students, colleagues, and the School.

Santa Clara University operates on a quarter system. Each quarter (fall, winter, and spring) is 10 weeks long, with an extra week for final examinations. Graduate classes are offered 7:00-9:00 AM, 5:00-7:00 PM, and 7:00-9:00 PM

QLs are allowed to teach up to 4 course equivalencies (CEs) per academic year with no more than 2 CEs in any particular quarter. Additionally, QLs are allowed to teach an additional 2 CEs during the summer terms. A 2 unit lecture equals 2/3 CE.

Generally, course equivalencies are:

UNDERGRADUATE
:

4 unit lecture = 1 CE

1 unit lab = 0.5 CE

1 unit lab with a teaching assistant (TA) = 0.25

GRADUATE
:
4 unit lecture = 1 CE
2 unit lecture = 0.66 CE

Basic Qualifications:
Earned Ph.D. Degree in mathematics or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching, specifically in Statistics.

Responsibilities:
Teach one or more graduate applied mathematics classes and participate in all related activities, including:
  • Prepare and conduct all assigned class meetings
  • Assign and evaluate/grade student work appropriately
  • Be available to students for consultation outside of class
  • Assign student grades appropriately and submit them on time to the Office of Student Records
  • Conduct course assessments as required by the department
  • Complete and submit time cards every two weeks
  • Comply with university and school policies, including those delineated in the School of Engineering Term Faculty Handbook
Special Instructions to Applicants:

Additional Information
Hiring is made on a quarterly basis. The first class dates for the  academic year are:
  • Fall 2025 - Monday September 22, 2025
  • Winter 2025 - Friday, January 5, 2025
  • Spring 2026 - Monday, March 30, 2026
