Brief Summary OfJob Duties
As a member of a zone maintenance team, the incumbent performs HVAC maintenance work, installing, repairing, maintaining and inspecting heating, ventilating, air conditioning and pneumatic systems and equipment. The role includes pumps, air compressors, steam and hot water boilers, heating and boiler tubes, heat exchangers, fans, dampers, hydraulic units, control and monitoring systems, and the creation of working drawings and control diagrams.
Collaboration with others and direct customer service to the campus community are essential components of the position.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 3‑5 years of demonstrated work experience in the HVAC trades.
- 3‑5 years of troubleshooting skills for refrigeration equipment and gas/electrical boilers.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance of refrigeration, chilling, air‑conditioning and heating equipment up to 550 tons in capacity, including absorption chillers, pumps, condensers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, reciprocating, centrifugal and screw type compressors, thermostats, electrical, pneumatic and PLC/micro‑processor controls.
- Skilled in installing, repairing and maintaining a wide variety of air‑conditioning, refrigeration, absorption chillers, heating and related systems and equipment.
- EPA Certificate Required.
- EPA Universal Technician Certificate.
- Valid driver’s license with record acceptable to local policies and procedures, and/or enrollment in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
- Pre‑employment physical exam required.
- Must be able to take night and weekend call‑backs.
- Satisfactory criminal history background check.

JobFunctions and Percentages of Time
- 90% Technical: Installs, repairs, maintains, inspects and adjusts HVAC and refrigeration systems, electronic and pneumatic control systems, pumps, air compressors, boilers, heat exchangers, fans and related components. Performs preventive maintenance, welding, soldering, brazing, facility audits, pipe design, sheet metal fabrication, and works with water treatment engineers on chemical balances.
