We’re in search of a forward-thinking Senior Tax Manager with strong corporate tax experience in public accounting and/or internal corporate tax departments. This role oversees day-to-day tax operations, supporting all aspects of corporate tax compliance and reporting, including quarterly and annual consolidated income tax provisions, tax return filings, audits, and cross-functional duties related to indirect taxes.

The role partners with the business to drive change, optimize processes, and scale operations as App Folio grows.

Your impact

Responsibilities
  • Tax Provision & Reporting: Manage the quarterly and annual income tax provision process, including global effective tax rate calculations, current and deferred tax expenses, provision-to-return true-up analysis, and evaluation of uncertain tax positions (FIN 48). Prepare and review analyses of deferred tax assets and liabilities, including valuation allowance assessments. Develop tax memoranda, footnotes, and disclosures for internal and external financial reporting.

    Partner with the Controller’s team to ensure the tax provision is integrated into the financial close, including SOX controls and supporting documentation.
  • Compliance & Operations: Manage income tax compliance processes, including timely preparation and filing of federal, state, and local returns with external advisors. Prepare and review quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments and extensions. Support the annual R&D credit study. Contribute to tax planning initiatives such as cash tax and effective tax rate forecasting, and transaction impact assessments. Lead federal and state tax audits and responses to notices.

    Oversee all phases of sales and use tax, property tax, and other indirect taxes, including compliance, monthly reporting, reconciliations, and audits. Advise cross-functional partners on indirect tax implications for new product offerings and go-to-market strategies. Maintain and manage tax engine software (Avalara) integrations with billing (Zuora) and ERP (Net Suite) systems, including tax code assignments for products and services.
  • Strategy, Process & Projects: Support purchase accounting and the integration of acquired companies across tax provision, compliance, processes, and systems. Research and document technical tax issues; monitor changes in tax laws and assess impacts. Mentor and develop tax team members and identify automation opportunities and tax technology enhancements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required;
    Master’s in Taxation and/or CPA preferred.
  • At least 8 years of income tax compliance and financial reporting experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax.
  • Technical knowledge of U.S. income tax, ASC 740, SEC disclosure standards, and federal/state tax compliance.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office (Excel), Net Suite, Avalara, Alteryx, CCH, and Bloomberg tools.
  • Proven success in improving income tax accounting processes and driving efficiencies. Indirect tax experience a plus. SaaS/Software/Tech experience preferred.
  • Excellent time management with ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation & Benefits

The compensation range for this role is $152,000 to $190,000 (base pay). Actual pay will be determined by factors including skills, education, and experience. Base pay is part of a Total Rewards package; the range listed excludes additional benefits or discretionary bonuses. Regular full-time employees are eligible for benefits.
