Mechanical Engineer, Product Engineer
Most engineers design products. This one designs products that save lives - and you'll own every step of the process.
Job DescriptionWe are hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a small, high-performing engineering team building life safety equipment trusted by rescue professionals around the world. This is not a role for someone who wants to sit behind a screen and push CAD files across a desk. This is a role for an engineer who wants to own the full product development cycle - from the first sketch on a whiteboard to a finished product being clipped onto a rope in the field.
You will design both hard goods (rope hardware, carabiners, pulleys, rigging plates, cams, and mechanical devices) and soft goods (harnesses and sewn assemblies), operate laboratory test equipment including tensile testers and drop towers, and collaborate directly with suppliers to resolve technical issues and develop second-source manufacturing solutions. Our team is lean, our processes are evolving, and the engineers who thrive here are the ones who see a gap and fill it - not the ones who wait to be told what to do.
WhatYou Will Do
- Design, model, and document complex mechanical assemblies and components in Solid Works, from concept through production-ready drawings
- Lead product development cycles end-to-end, including prototyping, hands-on testing, design reviews, and release to manufacturing
- Conduct engineering analyses (FEA, tolerance stack-ups, material selection) to ensure the safety and reliability of life-critical equipment
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams - and step in as the technical voice when those teams need engineering support
- Operate high-load tensile testers and drop towers in our in-house laboratory to validate designs against rigorous performance standards
- Support second-source supplier development by defining design intent, communicating specifications, and managing non-conformances
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and 3-5+ years of professional mechanical design experience with hard goods, mechanisms, or similar product categories
- Demonstrated Solid Works proficiency: complex assemblies, advanced surfacing, and simulation tools
- Experience working within an ISO 9000 quality environment and comfort communicating technical issues directly with suppliers
- A portfolio showing concept-to-production product development - we want to see what you've built
We are an employee-owned company - which means the people who build these products have a real stake in the outcome. If you are ready to do the most meaningful engineering work of your career, we want to hear from you. Apply now or send us a message to learn more.
