THE POSITION

The City of Santa Barbara is seeking a skilled and motivated professional to join our Water Resources Department as a Water Distribution Maintenance Planner/Scheduler
. This position plans, prioritizes, schedules, coordinates, oversees, and assists with maintenance and replacement of Water Distribution assets and infrastructure. This role is essential to our operations, and requires accountability, critical thinking, effective communication, technical knowledge, and efficient time management. You will lead complex operations, support Water Distribution projects, and contribute to the sustainability and reliability of our water infrastructure, all while serving a vibrant coastal community dedicated to excellence and innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prioritize, schedule, coordinate, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Support Capital Improvement Projects, including planning shutdowns, coordinating staff and resources, documenting work, and tracking progress.
  • Coordinate Water Distribution operations and projects with other City work groups, engineers, contractors, and consultants to support project design and construction.
  • Support a comprehensive Asset Management Plan for Water Distribution including process development, standard operating procedure documentation, and quality assurance/quality control for CMMS, GIS, and operational data.
  • Analyze maintenance data and prepare reports to meet regulatory requirements and support operational decisions.
  • Assist with inventory management, procuring materials, and budgetary projections for projects and maintenance programs.

PAYROLL

Knowledge of
  • Principles of water distribution system operation and maintenance.
  • Methods, tools, equipment, materials, and safety procedures required for maintaining and replacing water distribution assets and equipment.
  • Principles of asset management and preventative maintenance processes.
  • Using CMMS software to document information for projects, work performed, and asset condition.
  • Databases and data analysis for identifying trends, generating reports, and supporting data driven decisions.
  • Inventory management practices and processes, including purchasing and tracking materials.
  • Interpreting plans, drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Principles and practices of project planning, prioritization, and time management.
  • Estimating material, labor, and equipment costs.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws and regulations.
  • Modern office practices, systems, and computer equipment.
  • Technical research, report writing, and professional correspondence.
Ability to
  • Plan, manage, and lead complex projects with Water Distribution staff, contractors, and consultants.
  • Identify problems, research and analyze relevant information, develop and present recommendations.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking abilities to identify and implement solutions and effective processes.
  • Assess and prioritize a wide variety of projects, programs, and tasks.
  • Organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Plan and efficiently schedule maintenance programs and assignments.
  • Maintain detailed records for assets, operations, and projects.
  • Support a comprehensive Asset Management Plan for Water Distribution.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Prepare and deliver concise reports and informative presentations.
  • Work effectively in a team-based organization focused on continuous improvement.
