Respite Caregiver (DSP), Home Health Care
The Direct Service Professional provides support to children and young adults with special needs. This position is comprised of three functional roles:
Inclusion Facilitator, Personal Care Assistant and Respite Worker. Responsibilities of each role may be performed individually or simultaneously based on the needs of each client’s situation.
- Inclusion Facilitator: supports children and young adults with special needs in typical childcare centers, promotes inclusion and independence within the childcare environment.
- Personal Care Assistant: provides support to adults with disabilities in community-based services, enabling tasks they would normally perform if not for a disability (e.g., attending college classes, working at job sites, grocery shopping, meal preparation).
- Respite Worker: delivers age-appropriate enrichment and daily life activities to give families relief, working closely with individuals and their loved ones to problem-solve and guide them toward safety, success, wellness, and fulfillment.
- Experience:
1-2 years experience working with individuals with disabilities or equivalent related life experience preferred. - Education:
High School Diploma or GED. - Licensure/
Certifications:
Complete and maintain Infant/Child/Adult CPR & First Aid training or provide proof of certification. - Specialized
Skills:
Must pass DOJ background check; reliable transportation; proof of negative tuberculosis test; ability to represent CHOC professionally and with strong communication, customer service, and confidentiality skills; ability to work independently or collaboratively; strong organization and decision-making abilities;
Bilingual abilities preferred (English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese). - Preferred:
Valid CA driver’s license and automobile insurance; eligible for CHOC commercial auto policy; local travel required; bilingual abilities as noted.
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED. - Licensure: CPR & First Aid certification as above.
- Other:
Physical and environmental requirements reflect light to medium activity, including lifting and handling of patients; safe operation within healthcare settings; willingness to adhere to safety protocols and HIPAA standards.
Physical and environmental demands include medium to high energy levels and potential lifting/pushing/pulling requirements; flexible to support a variety of client needs and settings.
