Job Purpose
The Electrical Design Engineering Manager serves as a critical leader within the R&D organization, responsible for guiding and developing the electrical engineering team while driving all electronic design efforts. This role oversees electronic system design for new product development as well as the maintenance and enhancement of electronics in existing products. The ideal manager combines deep technical expertise with effective leadership skills, ensuring high-quality output, strong team performance, and timely execution across multiple projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of electrical engineers working on new product development and sustaining engineering projects.
• Oversee the design, development, and integration of electronic systems for advanced medical devices.
• Ensure all electrical development processes align with Class II and Class III medical device regulatory expectations, including lifecycle and documentation standards.
• Partner with cross-functional teams—including Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Software Engineering, and Manufacturing—to support product development from concept through commercialization.
• Develop project plans, allocate resources, set engineering priorities, and ensure on-time delivery of key milestones.
• Establish and maintain best-practice engineering standards, design reviews, risk analyses, and design controls.
• Lead or support design verification and validation activities, including test protocol creation and execution oversight.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across tools, methodologies, and workflows.
• Support technical assessments for suppliers, component selection, and system-level integration.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, quality systems, and ethical standards.
• Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline; master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in electrical design and development, ideally within the medical device industry including at least 5 years of leadership role.
• Working knowledge of medical device regulatory requirements (Class II/III), including 510(k) documentation expectations
• Strong proficiency in electrical CAD tools such as Altium (or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of design controls, risk management (FMEA), and verification/validation processes
• Solid understanding of embedded systems, board-level design, and object-oriented architecture principles.

Compensation
The anticipated range for this position is $173,000 to $195,000 at an annual base. Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, experience and location.
Working conditions
• Works in an office environment which includes laboratory and manufacturing areas. Occasional domestic travel may be required.
• Work a standard work week but may be required to work some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the company.
Physical requirements
Must be able to type using the keyboard of a computer. Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the telephone. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
