Overview
Tom's of Maine is seeking a Making Technician to execute the manufacturing of natural toothpaste products while meeting safety, quality, and productivity goals. The role supports the Making Area activities through Factory Performance & Reliability program elements such as visual workplace, equipment operating maintenance, and continuous improvement. The role also supports the facility with cleaning, repair, groundskeeping, and other support as needed.
This position requires occasional overtime and weekend work. This is a 1st Shift position with working hours Monday - Friday, 7 a.m.
- 3:30 p.m. with occasional required overtime on Saturdays.
This role is On-Site at the location detailed in the job post. The position is part of Colgate-Palmolive and includes military-affiliated support opportunities for Veterans, Transitioning Military, National Guard and Reserve Members, Military Spouses, Wounded Warriors, and their Caregivers.
Functional Responsibilities- Safety - Ensure all EOHS requirements (Environmental Occupational Health and Safety) are met while handling materials and operating equipment.
- Quality - Follow Current Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures; document all batch, material, label, and in-process data with accuracy and neatness to meet FDA guidelines; keep the Making Area and equipment clean and organized.
- Productivity - Operate Making Area equipment to achieve production targets with minimal waste and downtime; cross-train to master all making system operations, material handling/documentation, and equipment setup/routine maintenance.
- Leadership - Work within the team environment professionally; attend meetings promptly; contribute to Factory Performance & Reliability projects that promote continuous improvement.
- Execute manufacture of toothpaste batches in adherence to production schedules, batch instructions, and SOPs.
- Handle and weigh raw materials with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Clean and sanitize the Making Area, including equipment and tools.
- Accurately manage all documentation for toothpaste batches in accordance with Quality and GMP standards.
- Operate fork trucks and other equipment to transport raw materials, in-progress, and finished goods.
- Navigate SAP and other computerized Making Area programming/system transactions.
- Apply Lock Out/Tag Out procedures as needed.
- Minimum Education:
High School/GED. - Experience:
At least 1 year of manufacturing experience preferred. - Key competencies:
Ability to read, write, and understand English; accurate mathematical calculations; ability to lift repeatedly up to 55 lbs; ability to operate machinery safely; understanding of product quality specifications; adherence to GMP/SOP. - Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Salary Range $24.35 - $24.35 USD. Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.
